I want to share my impressions of the winter trip with my guests from the USA to Charyn Canyon. It was the winter of February 4 /2018, we planned the trip in advance and waited impatiently for the meeting!
Introduction:
Charyn Canyon is a natural monument composed of sedimentary rocks, the age of which is about 12 million years. The height of the sheer mountains of the canyon reaches 150-300 m. Local ash trees have been preserved since the Ice Age.
The most interesting place for tourists is the so-called Valley of Castles, whose length is about 4 km, width - 20-80 m.
Charyn Canyon Located 200 km from the city of Almaty, the southern capital in Kazakhstan.
You can get to the Сanyon in various ways: take a taxi, rent a car, or hitch hike. #Charyn #Kolsaitors #CharynCanyon
Descent into the gorge takes no more than 5-7 minutes. Nothing difficult, the main thing - to choose comfortable shoes, so as not to cut yourself against the stones. Caught between two walls with a height of 300 meters, you feel the power of nature. Millions of years time, water and wind created these different forms
A few minutes later we were at the bottom of the Canyon
In the morning there was bad weather, but on my travels to this region I was sure that the Charyn Canyon had good weather. And I was right, the weather was perfect!
My guests I was very happy about the good weather!
Walking about the Сanyon was very fascinating, we often stopped, for a photo.
I am also always fascinated by the greatness of the Charyn Canyon, the very awareness of it, walking around one of the most ancient places on the planet.
The photo clearly shows the structure of the Canyon, which consists of clay rock, from the sedimentary rocks - at least 12 million years old. In the light of the sun, the rocks acquire a red tinge.
Before us the Charyn River
The length of the river is 427 kilometers, the area of the basin is 7720 km ². The Moinak HPP, which forms the Bestyubinsk Reservoir, was built on the river.
Charyn - a large left tributary of the Ili River - begins on the southern slope of the eastern part of the Ketmen ridge under the names Shalkudys and Kegen. After passing the vast valley dividing Ketmen and the plateau of Ushkhasan, Kegen enters the vast, high raised intermontane plain and forms extensive swamps here - "spills." Below the confluence of the large left tributary of Karkar, Kegen enters a narrow valley - Aktogai Canyon and flows further under the name Charyn. The latter, having passed two canyons Kurtogai and Sarytogai, enters the Ili valley, forming a delta. Here the river is called Tuscarasu.
